Playboi Carti charged with assault after alleged fight with limo driver
Playboi Carti has been charged with misdemeanour assault after an alleged altercation involving his girlfriend, a security guard, and a limousine driver.
The 30-year-old rapper was reportedly en route to rehearsals for his Antagonist Tour on October 2nd when the incident occurred. The limousine driver reported that Carti, real name Jordan Terrell Carter, began a heated argument during the journey from Park City to Orem.
The driver, identified as Carl Reynolds, went on to explain, as per Tribune, that he felt unsafe and attempted to separate the pair by placing them in different vehicles. After everybody exited the cars, Carter lashed out and reportedly hit his girlfriend.
Nonetheless, Reynolds said he did not see the moment of contact but witnessed her “hunched over” and “holding near her chest.” The driver shared that Carti then took his anger out on him. Carter reportedly punched Reynolds in the face while his head was turned. Deputies confirmed visible redness and marks on Reynolds’ jaw after the incident.
Carter allegedly admitted to striking Reynolds “for stopping in a weird place”. However, his girlfriend reportedly told police she had hit the driver. Carter’s security guard said he elbowed him.
Carter faced separate assault charges in 2022, which involved his then-pregnant girlfriend. In 2020, he was arrested in Georgia after police found drugs and firearms in his Lamborghini. In 2017, he was arrested for domestic battery.
In April, Kanye West alleged that Playboi Carti threatened him with a gun. According to Ye, the Atlanta rapper was at the Chateau Marmont hotel in Los Angeles with a firearm and informed him of his whereabouts.
Prior to this, Ye had revealed that he intended to scrap his joint project with Playboi Carti after claiming he was blocked from appearing on the Atlanta rapper’s new album. Carti released Music on March 14th, but Ye was notably absent from the body of work.
