Piers Morgan apologises to Jay-Z and Beyoncé after controversial interview
Piers Morgan has recently found himself in the centre of controversy, as some of the comments made on his show have led to legal action. The broadcaster had Jaguar Wright on his programme, Piers Morgan Uncensored, who levelled unfounded accusations against Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs and his contemporaries, Jay-Z and Beyoncé.
Wright has always been a critic of Jay-Z, so her disdain towards the rapper is nothing new. However, some of the accusations she made recently make her previous comments look minor. She spoke about the current controversy surrounding Combs and the barrage of allegations he is currently facing before stating that Jay-Z is at the centre of everything. “Harvey Weinstein, Jeffrey Epstein, Robert Kelly, Sean Combs have one person in common professionally and privately,” she said, “Shawn Carter.”
Jay-Z and Beyoncé took legal action against the show, claiming Wrights comments were defamatory and should be cut. Morgan spoke to his viewers on October 8th to clarify the situation. “Their lawyers contacted us to say that those claims were totally false,” he said, “And have no basis in fact.”
Morgan confirmed that the interview was cut, and a different version aired. “Editing interviews is not something we do lightly, at a show called Uncensored,” he said, “But there are legal limits on us too.”
The English journalist also took the time to say sorry to Jay-Z and Beyoncé, as he said, “We apologise to Jay-Z and Beyoncé.”
Wright has also been abused for agreeing to do the interview in the first place. Singer Ray J criticised Wright as she agreed to go on Piers Morgan’s programme but refused to take part on his show, stating, “You wanna keep taking these other ni**as money and not showing love to the community? That shit weak as fuck.”
Meek Mill also wasn’t happy with Wright’s interview, as he asked, “Why do these people have more of a voice than the thoroughbred people!” Mill’s comments about the situation should be taken with a pinch of salt, as he has allegedly previously had close ties with Sean Combs and Jay-Z, who he worked under for a while when he was at Roc Nation.
Whether any other celebrities will be dragged into Combs’ ongoing legal battle remains to be seen, and there is much speculation surrounding who else may have been involved in the controversy.
Lawyer Tony Buzbee, who is highly involved in the barrage of allegations facing Combs, recently claimed that several A-list celebrities linked to Diddy are settling lawsuits behind the scenes due to their involvement in some of the alleged illegal activity carried out by the mogul. However, Buzbee didn’t reveal any names.
