Pharrell pushes Something in the Water Festival back to next spring
Pharrell has postponed his Virginia-based annual festival, Something in the Water, until next spring. The producer admitted that it isn’t ready yet.
Pharrell started Something in the Water festival in 2019, bringing stars to the seafront of his home in Virginia Beach. The first edition of the event featured a huge lineup, including Travis Scott, Migos, Missy Elliott, and more.
Something in the Water usually takes place in the spring, but this year’s edition had previously been pushed back to October. Now, Pharrell has shared a statement on the festival’s social media pages postponing the event a second time.
“Dearest Virginia,” Pharrell’s statement begins, “I love you with all my heart. Nobody loves you more than I do. Virginia doesn’t deserve better, Virginia deserves THE BEST. So SOMETHING IN THE WATER has to match that. It just isn’t ready yet.”
He announced the festival’s postponement until April 2025, adding, “Virginia made me, and I want to honor it with as much love it’s shown me my entire life. And you know me, everywhere I go, it’s VA.” A specific date for the festival is yet to be announced.
Festival-goers who have already purchased tickets for Something in the Water will be refunded and priority access when the new dates are announced.
“I am so grateful to our amazing sponsors and the city for their continued support and trust in us to get this right, and that time is April 2025,” Pharrell concluded, “This has to be EPIC, and trust me, after this long wait, it will be. Thank you for your support, love and understanding.”
The lineup for the 2024 edition of Something in the Water had not yet been announced. Last year’s festival featured an impressive array of names, including the legendary Grace Jones, 100 Gecs, Wu-Tang Clan, Flo Milli, and KAYTRANADA.
Pharrell is currently promoting Piece by Piece, a film that tells the story of his career through Lego animation. The movie has been directed by Morgan Neville, who was worked on a number of entertainment documentaries including Brian Wilson: A Beach Boy’s Tale and Hank Williams: Honky Tonk Blues.
Pharrell will play the Lego version of himself in the film, supported by a star-studded cast including Gwen Stefani, Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, Justin Timberlake and more, all playing themselves.
The Lego documentary premiered in late August at the Telluride Film Festival, and hits cinemas in the United States on October 11th.
