Petition to remove Kanye West from Coachella picks up momentum

A petition to remove Kanye West from Coachella has grown significantly in recent days.

Over 35,000 people have signed the Change.org petition, demanding the festival to have a change of heart over their headliner. This year’s event will be the first Coachella since 2019, and it will begin on April 15th-17th before repeating the following weekend at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California.

Kanye is due to headline the bash alongside Billie Eilish and Harry Styles, but his recent behaviour on social media has made some fans want the rapper to be removed from the line-up.

The caption on the petition reads: “We have watched Kanye harass, manipulate, and hurt Kim, Pete, and others for over a year now. No one seems to want to stand up to him, and the ones that do, he puts under fire as well.

“Most recently, he has been threatening actual bodily harm on others. This is ridiculous that he is allowed to freely do this. Coachella (along with other brand names that are still working with him) should be ashamed of themselves and should not be giving him any more of a platform.”

Last week, West was temporarily suspended from Instagram after using a racial slur against Trevor Noah. The comic had previously called Ye’s behaviour towards Pete Davidson and Kim Kardashian “terrifying”.

However, Noah has since taken to Twitter to urge people to “counsel Kanye, not cancel Kanye.”

Kanye has yet to respond to the petition.
