OG Maco hospitalised following alleged suicide attempt
Hip-hop star OG Maco has reportedly been hospitalised after suffering a gunshot wound to the head. The Georgia rapper, who is best known for his hit 2014 single ‘U Guessed It’, was rushed to hospital in the Los Angeles area on the morning of December 12th.
Police received a 911 call at around 10am when a neighbour heard the sound of a gunshot go off inside Maco’s home. Upon their arrival, emergency services found the 32-year-old unresponsive and took him to a local hospital to undergo surgery.
A firearm was discovered at the scene of the incident, with TMZ claiming signs point towards a suicide attempt. His manager and longtime friend, Poppa Percccc, stated Maco was alive but needed prayers from everyone.
Maco (real name Benedict Ihesiba Jr.) was one of the first stars of Atlanta label Quality Control Music, which has launched the careers of many big-name rappers such as Migos, Lil Baby, Lil Yachty and City Girls. He found success with ‘U Guessed It’ in 2014, along with its remix featuring 2 Chainz. The song appeared on his self-titled EP, with Migos also appearing on the project.
The rapper has gone through a number of troubling experiences over the years. In 2016, he survived a car crash that resulted in skull fractures, a cracked vertebrae, a broken orbital and heart palpitations. Then, in 2019, he revealed he was suffering from a flesh-eating disease.
“So much healing has occurred thanks to God and my doctors that I’m willing to show all a fraction of what I’ve been going through,” Maco wrote on Instagram in March 2019. “I was improperly treated for a minor rash and ended up with a skin-eating disease for the last few months. This is the best it’s looked. I hope it gives someone hope.”
He continued, “I’ve been going through this alone 90% of the time, without the support of the person I love, without most of my ‘friends’, without anything but my own strength and God. Girlfriends/Lovers will leave you at your worst. Friendship is many times just a word. Actions are everything. Believe in those who show you actions worth believing in.”
Maco admitted it took “a lot” to open up about the disease and that he had been experiencing symptoms for around three months. He went on to say that he was “scared” and worried about losing his entire face.
