Offset requests joint custody in Cardi B divorce filing

Cardi B filed for divorce from Offset in July 2024 after seven years of marriage. In a new filing, the Migos rapper requests joint legal custody of their three children: daughter Kulture, son Wave and another daughter born in September.

Despite his request, Offset states that Cardi’s home should be the primary residence for the kids. He’s also asking the court to lay out their child support obligations.

According to TMZ, Offset wants them to divide their marital property and thinks they should each pay their own lawyer fees. The couple reportedly started dating in February 2017 and were married by September that year.

Cardi previously submitted a divorce petition in September 2020 before dismissing it that November. A source told Page Six that the couple had “grown apart” amid rumours that infidelity was the reason for their issues. This came after an amicable split in December 2018, with Cardi stating they might have “grew out of love.”

During an Instagram Live session, she said, “I just got tired of fucking arguing. I got tired of not seeing things eye to eye. When you feel like it’s just not the same anymore, before you actually get cheated on, I’d rather just leave. Nothing crazy out of this world happened, sometimes people really do grow apart.”

Speaking to Vogue in December 2019, Cardi admitted to Offset cheating on her. “When me and my husband got into our issues—you know, he cheated and everything—and I decided to stay with him and work together with him, a lot of people were so mad at me; a lot of women felt disappointed in me. But it’s real-life shit,” she said.

“If you love somebody and you stop being with them, and you’re depressed and social media is telling you not to talk to that person because he cheated, you’re not really happy on the inside until you have the conversation. Then, if you get back with them, it’s like, ‘How could you? You let all of us down.'”

She added, “People that be in marriages for years, when they say ’til death do us part, they not talking about little arguments like if you leave the fridge open. That’s including everything.”
