Nicki Minaj forced to cancel Romanian festival slot amid safety concerns
Nicki Minaj cancelled her scheduled appearance at a Romanian festival that was set to take place on July 7th, citing safety concerns as her reasoning for the withdrawal.
The rapper was set to headline the final night of SAGA Festival in Bucharest on July 7th, billed as the “overall headliner” of the festival. Yesterday, on the day she was set to perform, Minaj announced that she would be dropping out of the slot due to safety concerns, leaving thousands of fans disappointed by her decision.
SAGA Festival responded by offering refunds to festival-goers, which can be requested both at the venue and online. A refund form has been uploaded to their website, which will be available until Friday, July 12th.
Minaj took to X to share the news, stating that her security team had advised her not to travel to Romania “due to safety concerns regarding protests in the area.” Continuing, “I look forward to seeing you all at another time,” she wrote, providing some hope to disappointed Romanian fans.
“As a mom, I have to make sure I’m making sound decisions for me to make it home to my son and for my team to make it home to their families,” Minaj further explained, “To not heed the advice of security at this time is simply not what I think I should be doing.”
The rapper concluded by sharing her love and appreciation for understanding fans, before noting that her “very special” headline set at Wireless Festival in London will still be going ahead.
Minaj is set to close the Friday of the Finsbury Park festival on July 12th. 21 Savage, J Hus and Doja Cat will also deliver headline slots over the course of the weekend. The line-up also features Minaj’s previous collaborator Ice Spice, alongside some other huge names including Flo Milli and Future.
After Wireless, Minaj has two more festival headline slots lined up for the summer at Openair in Frauenfeld, Switzerland and Les Ardentes in Liège, Belgium. The rapper will then embark upon a series of dates across the United States as part of the Pink Friday 2 world tour this September.
