Nicki Minaj arrested at Amsterdam airport for allegedly carrying drugs

Amid her latest tour across the world, Nicki Minaj has been arrested for possession of drugs when going through an Amsterdam airport.

The rap star was travelling into Manchester and filmed herself getting arrested despite insisting that she had no narcotics on her. She had been promoting the release of her latest album, Pink Friday 2, culminating in shows at the O2 starting on May 28th.

In a Twitter thread, Minaj alleged that many of her staff had tried to stop the tour, saying, “They’ve been trying to stop me from coming to every show. They took my bags before I could see them. Put it on the plane. Now saying they’re waiting on customs”.

In a subsequent video posted on her Instagram Live, Minaj persistently asks to know how to contact her lawyer before being informed that she is under arrest. She then went on to say that she was escorted into a police van and never given the opportunity to speak with a lawyer.

Robert van Kapel, a spokesman for the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee, told NBC News: “We can confirm that we have arrested a 41-year-old American woman at Schiphol Airport because of possession of soft drugs.”

This comes after news of Minaj’s recent tour putting up major numbers. In addition to making millions of dollars from every show, The Pink Friday 2 World Tour is also set to be one of the highest-grossing tours for a woman emcee.

Of course, the tour hasn’t come without its fair share of controversy as well. During the lead-up to her latest album, Minaj had been involved in a highly publicised feud with Megan Thee Stallion, which included Stallion releasing the diss track ‘Hiss’ and Minaj then responding in kind with the track ‘Big Foot’. Minaj has also referenced Stallion’s history with Tory Lanez, alleging that Stallion was never shot.

The response to Minaj’s track has also caused her to go on the defensive against Stallion, saying that YouTube bots are getting in the way of the success of her album. She has also alleged that others are being paid to bad-mouth her in the press.

As of yet, there has been no word on if any tour dates will need to be cancelled or rescheduled.
