Nicki Minaj arrest warrant denied following assault lawsuit
Nicki Minaj won’t be arrested for allegedly assaulting her former manager, Brandon Garrett, at this moment in time. A Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office spokesperson said that they reviewed the Detroit Police Department’s warrant request but denied it due to “insufficient evidence” proving a crime had occurred.
The Queens rapper is being sued for assault, battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress after Garrett filed a lawsuit claiming that Minaj assaulted him in her dressing room on the Pink Friday 2 Tour at Detroit’s Little Caesars Arena on April 21st, 2024.
According to TMZ, Garrett claims he was attacked by Minaj after she found out that he had sent someone else to pick up her prescriptions. She allegedly hit Garrett with her palm before smacking his wrist, causing him to drop several documents. With his wrist “throbbing,” he claims the blow to his face caused his head to “swing backwards as his hat flew off his head.”
He also alleges that Minaj threatened him verbally, claiming she told him, “Are you fucking crazy having him pick up my prescription? You have lost your fucking mind and if my husband were here he would knock out your fucking teeth. You’re a dead man walking. You just fucked up your whole life and you will never be anyone, I’ll make sure of it.”
Garrett claims he then “ran to the nearest restroom and locked himself inside for hours” and was informed that the tour bus would leave to Chicago without him. After flying to the Windy City, Garrett says he filed a police complaint and returned to Detroit to file another.
Minaj has denied the allegations and gone as far as saying Garrett was never her manager. Her attorney, Judd Burstein, recently said in a statement, “At this time, no complaint has been served upon Mrs Petty (Minaj’s married name), and therefore, we are unaware of the specific allegations.”
He continued, “However, if the lawsuit is as reported by TMZ, it is completely false and frivolous. We are confident that the matter brought by this ex-assistant will be resolved swiftly in Mrs Petty’s favour.”
