New South Park series to take aim at Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs
The popular animated comedy series South Park is set to make a return with a new series. The cartoon will premiere on Comedy Central on July 9th, and the trailers so far have suggested that Season 27 will include ketamine, a space-travelling Sean ‘Diddy‘ Combs, and a war against Canada.
In one of the more recent trailers, the famous character, Butters, shouts, “Oh crap, we’re all gonna get fired!” as he sits in an air traffic control tower. Viewers can see planes crashing into each other in the background, making reference to the FAA federal employee cuts that Elon Musk and Donald Trump enforced at the beginning of March.
The trailer begins with ominous music and a desolate swing set and then the wing of an aeroplane. Text reading, “The acclaimed drama returns”, appears on the screen before transitioning into South Park’s classic animation style.
The last season of South Park aired two years ago and was completely absent from TV during the election year. According to the show’s creators, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, they were tired of mocking Donald Trump and wanted to use the scandals of 2025 as new material.
Speaking with Variety, the creators explained, “We’ve tried to do South Park through four or five presidential elections, and it is such a hard thing to — it’s such a mind scramble, and it seems like it takes outsized importance.” Trey Parker added, “Obviously, it’s fucking important, but it kind of takes over everything, and we just have less fun. I don’t know what more we could possibly say about Trump.”
It has also been reported that Stone and Parker are working on a film with rapper and ‘Not Like Us’ legend Kendrick Lamar. Multiple sources have confirmed that it won’t be released this year but will come out next year via Paramount.
South Park is executively produced by Parker and Stone alongside Anne Garefino and Frank C. Agnone II. Eric Stough, Adrien Beard, Bruce Howell and Vernon Chatman are producers. Christopher Brion is the creative director of South Park Digital Studios.
