NBA YoungBoy released from prison months earlier than scheduled
NBA YoungBoy has been released from prison. The Baton Rouge rapper is reportedly a free man after spending almost a year behind bars at Federal Correctional Institution Talladega in Alabama.
Prison records show YoungBoy was released on March 24th. While Akademiks couldn’t confirm whether he was officially free or transferred to a halfway house, NBA member OG 3Three took to Instagram to reveal he was no longer a prisoner.
Sharing a photo of the two of them, he wrote in the caption, “UHHHHHH OHHHHH MY is finally back home #AllGloryToGod no more #FreeTop #HeHome #Blessed @nba_youngboy.” Rich The Kid, who released a collaborative album with YoungBoy, Nobody Safe, in 2020, also wrote on X, “YB FREE !!!”
The news comes just days after his release date was updated from July 27th to April 26th in the Federal Bureau of Prisons database.
YoungBoy was arrested on April 16th, 2024, and charged with running a prescription drug fraud ring. He was also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon after guns were found in his home, having already been on house arrest for a gun case.
He pled guilty to 10 counts in the prescription drug fraud case and was handed a suspended prison sentence. Then, he pleaded guilty to the gun charges and was sentenced to 23 months.
During an interview with XXL earlier this year, YoungBoy’s attorney, Drew Findling, claimed that people would be surprised at how quickly the rapper would be released.
“We’re trying to lock in a deal with him right now,” he said in February. “People are going to be shocked at how quickly he’ll be out. And lawyers will be shocked that do this for a living because the ones that I brainstorm with are just blown away. So, it all may work out for him.“
