NBA YoungBoy movie earns over $1 million at the box office

The new NBA YoungBoy film has reportedly earned over $1 million in its opening weekend at the box office.

American YoungBoy, a documentary directed by Nico Ballesteros, debuted at number 10 on this week’s box office total, earning $1.2 million in the US.

According to Rolling Stone, viral clips of rowdy, sold-out screenings of the film played a major role in it becoming a success at the box office, following its April 22nd release.

The movie serves as a documentary film for YoungBoy’s Make America Slime Again Tour, which took place between September 1st, 2025, and November 12th, 2025. The tour consisted of 42 sold-out shows across North America, with the rapper performing up to 48 songs a night.

He performed in the likes of Dallas, Austin, Houston, Los Angeles, Brooklyn, Boston, Philadelphia, Miami, Atlanta, Nashville, New Orleans, and Las Vegas. It was his first tour in five years following his Still Flexin, Still Steppin Tour in 2020.

The Make America Slime Again Tour is the 10th highest-grossing tour for a rapper of all time, grossing over $70 million.

The tour came in support of YoungBoy’s MASA album, which was released in July 2025. The project reached number six on the Billboard 200 chart with 49,000 units in its first week.

American YoungBoy is positioned at number 10 behind Michael, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Project Hail Mary, Lee Cronin’s Mummy, The Drama, Hoppers, You Me and Tuscany, Over Your Dead Body, and Mother Mary.

The director, Ballesteros, previously directed the Kanye West documentary, In Whose Name, which came out in 2025.

Ballesteros filmed over 3,000 hours of footage for the Ye film, covering everything from the end of his marriage to struggles with his mental health.
