NBA YoungBoy becomes most RIAA-certified rapper of all time
NBA YoungBoy has made history by becoming the most certified rapper in Recording Industry Association of America history.
On January 16th, the RIAA announced that the Baton Rouge rapper had broken the hip-hop record with 126 titles certified.
YoungBoy boasts more gold and platinum songs and albums than other big names like Jay-Z, Kanye West, and Drake.
The 26-year-old is known for releasing a lot of music, having dropped at least 29 projects and 102 singles in his young career. His platinum projects include Top, Sincerely, Kentrell, AI YoungBoy 2, and 38 Baby 2, which all reached number one on the Billboard 200 chart.
Last year alone, he released several projects, including his album, MASA, a mixtape titled DeShawn, and the compilation, More Leaks.
The RIAA news coincided with the release of his new album, Slime Cry, that same day. The delayed project included 30 songs, with guest appearances from Burna Boy and Jelly Roll.
He was initially set to release the project in November, but the date came and went without any sign of being released.
Just days later, YoungBoy took to social media with some concerning messages. “I want drop the the album then die,” he wrote on X. “You’ll never find another. My life literally perfect, im just not happy. It’s me. I promise to show up for you though. You gone be happy.”
He also posted a photo of wrestler Chris Benoit, who committed suicide by hanging in 2007 after killing his wife and seven-year-old son.
YoungBoy toured the US last year on his Make America Slime Again Tour. According to Billboard, the tour earned $28.3 million, selling 231,000 tickets across 17 shows.
