NBA YoungBoy matches Drake success with ‘Slime Cry’ album
NBA YoungBoy has tied a Drake record with his Slime Cry album entering the Billboard 200 chart this week.
The Baton Rouge rapper released his latest project on Motown Records on January 26th. Slime Cry debuted at number six on the albums chart for the week ending January 22nd.
In doing so, YoungBoy celebrates his 17th top 10 album, matching Drake for the second-most top 10 albums by a rapper of all time. Only Future has more than them, boasting 18.
Slime Cry opened with 70,000 units in its first week. Of that figure, 69,000 were SEA units, equaling 72.6 million on-demand streams.
The project is made up of 30 tracks, with features from Burna Boy and Jelly Roll. It serves as the follow-up to his 2025 album, MASA.
Last year, DJ Akademiks claimed that YoungBoy wanted to sit down for an interview with Drake.
“Top told me, Top was like, Drake know this, Top was like, ‘Yo I wanna do an interview with Drake,'” he recalled. “I passed the message on to Drake. This was like two weeks ago. I love both artists.”
He continued, “Bro, he be hating on his whole career, he wanna do this shit now. He’s trying to do it the right way. I don’t know what the conversation would be.”
In 2021, YoungBoy stated that a collaboration between him and Drake was on the way. “Me and Drake was really talkin’ ’bout Top, going ahead and getting the deal sealed with me and him linking up,” he said about his 2020 album.
He added, “That’s the whole collab we workin’ on as we speak. Yes, that is in the works.”
