NBA YoungBoy avoids drug charges following Utah traffic stop

NBA YoungBoy won’t be charged following a recent traffic stop where police discovered drugs in his vehicle.

The 26-year-old rapper (real name Kentrell Gaulden) was the passenger in a car stopped along Interstate 15 in American Fork, Utah, for illicit drugs.

According to KUTV, UHP Sgt Mike Alexander stated the police officer had probable cause to search the vehicle.

YoungBoy escaped charges and arrest after the male driver and a female passenger claimed ownership of the drugs. Money was also found inside the vehicle, but it wasn’t believed to have any connection to the drugs.

“In consultation with the Utah County Attorney’s Office, it was decided that charges would be screened against those two individuals for the possession of those illicit drugs,” Alexander said.

Alexander was also asked if YoungBoy’s criminal history could affect the case, but he stated he wasn’t aware of any charges being considered.

YoungBoy was released from prison in March 2025 after spending a year at the Federal Correctional Institution in Talladega, Alabama. He was charged with running a prescription drug fraud ring and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon after guns were found in his home.

President Donald Trump pardoned YoungBoy in May 2025, absolving him of his crimes after pleading guilty to possessing weapons.

“I want to thank President Trump for granting me a pardon and giving me the opportunity to keep building — as a man, as a father, and as an artist,” YoungBoy said at the time. “This moment means a lot. It opens the door to a future I’ve worked hard for and I am fully prepared to step into this.”

YoungBoy released the projects More Leaks, MASA, and DeShawn last year, while also touring the US on his Make America Slime Again Tour.
