Nas and DJ Premier’s first week ‘Light-Years’ sales revealed

Nas and DJ Premier’s collaborative album, Light-Years, has debuted at number 47 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Light-Years was released on December 12th via Mass Appeal Records, serving as the long-awaited joint project between the rapper and producer duo.

According to Hits Daily Double, the album sold a total of 21,309 units in its first week on the chart.

Premier’s manager, Ian Schwartzman, took to X (formerly Twitter) to react to the sales and chart position.

Schwartzman claimed that the two artists will benefit from consistent sales through physical copies and placements way past the first week.

“Independent in every way,” he said. “And wait until the vinyls and cd’s hit. This is week one. Let’s see where we are 1 year, 5 years and 10 years from now. I’m celebrating the thought of how good every sync to tv, movies and video games will feel knowing it comes directly to us!”

Light-Years is Nas’ first album since Magic 3, which was released in 2023 and debuted at number 65. He’s now released seven albums since the turn of the decade.

Before the project was released, Nas said, “I can’t wait for people to finally hear it. I don’t know about anybody else, but for me and him, it was personally a long time coming for us to do it.”

Light-Years is produced entirely by DJ Premier, with just two appearances coming from AZ and the Steve Miller Band. It consists of 15 tracks, with notable songs including ‘NY State of Mind Pt 3‘ and ‘3rd Childhood’.

It was the seventh release in Mass Appeal’s “Legend Has It” series, featuring albums from Slick Rick, De La Soul, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Mobb Deep, and Big L.
