Nas and DJ Premier announce new album ‘Light-Years’

Nas and DJ Premier have finally shared details for their collaborative album, which is titled Light-Years.

The pair revealed the title of the project this week, while confirming that it would be released on December 12th via Mass Appeal Records.

In addition, the rapper/producer duo showcased the official cover art for the new album, which finds Nas leaning on Premo’s shoulder.

Premier has produced classic songs for Nas in the past, including ‘NY State of Mind‘, ‘Memory Lane (Sittin’ in da Park)’, ‘Represent’, ‘I Gave You Power’, ‘Nas Is Like’, ‘2nd Childhood’, and ‘Come Get Me’.

Fans have been waiting for more music from them since they released their joint single, ‘Define My Name’, in April 2024.

Nas discussed Light-Years earlier this year, telling Rolling Stone, “I can’t wait for people to finally hear it. I don’t know about anybody else, but for me and him, it was personally a long time coming for us to do it.”

Mass Appeal co-founder Peter Bittenbender revealed that he had been fighting for the project to be released for a dozen years, describing it as “a pure hip-hop album in its highest form.”

He told Music Week, “I think there are only a few albums in the history of hip-hop that have had this level of anticipation. Nas and Premo are the perfect manifestation of what we want at Mass Appeal. The greatest rapper, the greatest producer, and they’ve both been doing it at such a high level for such an extended period of time.”

Light-Years will close out Mass Appeal’s “Legend Has It” series, which has included projects from Slick Rick, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Mobb Deep, Big L, and De La Soul throughout 2025.
