Mystikal transferred to notorious Louisiana prison after rape sentence

Mystikal has been transferred after being sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Last month, the New Orleans rapper (real name Michael Tyler) was handed two decades behind bars after pleading guilty to third-degree rape.

According to TMZ, Mystikal was moved from the custody of the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office to the Louisiana Department of Corrections.

He will serve his sentence at the maximum-security Louisiana State Penitentiary, also known as Angola Prison, in Louisiana, where he will have protective custody.

The 55-year-old will reportedly have his own occupancy cell, which is the best option due to his celebrity status.

The notorious prison is known as the “Alcatraz of the South,” serving as the biggest high-security prison in the US with 5,000 inmates across 18,000 acres.

Mystikal was arrested on charges of first-degree rape, domestic abuse battery-strangulation, and false imprisonment at his Prairieville home in 2022. A woman went to the hospital and claimed she was sexually assaulted.

In court, the victim claimed he punched her, choked her, pulled braids out of her hair, and forcibly raped her. Responding to the allegations, Mystikal said, “If I did that to you, I deserve the max sentence.”

Speaking on the sentencing, Mystikal’s son said, “You know, I feel bad for the victim as well as my father. Nobody wins from these situations. It’s hard for both parties, to be honest.” In a message to his dad, he said, “I hope you get the help you need. I really hope you do.”

Mystikal is best known for his 2000 hits ‘Shake Ya Ass’ and ‘Danger (Been So Long)’. He was previously signed to Master P’s No Limit Records in the 1990s.
