Mystikal rape trial delayed, with rapper remaining in prison

Rapper Mystikal remains in prison without bail or a trial date for his ongoing rape case, as the trial originally scheduled for June has been delayed.

Per a new report in The Advocatethe request to push legal proceedings back came from the rapper’s team. Newly-filed documents show that Mytikal’s new defence attorney, Tiffany Myles Crosby, requested last week that a state district judge continue her client’s jury trial because she required time “to become abreast of all pertinent issues in this matter in order to provide efficient representation.”

Crosby asked for the continuation without a new trial date, and prosecutors did not oppose the delay. Her request was granted the same day of the request. Last month, Crosby also filed for a gag order to be placed on the rape and false imprisonment case, citing an “inordinate amount of publicity.”

Mystikal is facing life in prison after being indicted for first-degree rape after an alleged incident at his Prairieville home in July 2022. Alongside this, he was charged with nine other criminal accounts by a grand jury last September. If convicted, there’s a mandatory life sentence under state law.

The other charges brought against Mystikal include false imprisonment, simple robbery, domestic abuse battery by strangulation, possession of heroin, possession of methamphetamine and illegal possession of Xanax. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
