Michael Jordan requested DJ to play Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Not Like Us’ at Florida party
Kendrick Lamar and Michael Jordan don’t have a personal relationship. However, Lamar has always idolised the NBA star, and it seems that the Chicago Bulls legend also loves the Compton rapper as he recently asked a DJ to play ‘Not Like Us’ for his enjoyment at a party in Florida.
Fans know K Dot holds Jordan in high regard as in a 2015 interview following the release of To Pimp A Butterfly, he spoke about his love for the NBA player and explained why he decided to name a track after him on his 2010 mixtape Overly Dedicated.
During his interview with UK station BBC 6 Music, Lamar unveiled, “I felt like Michael Jordan can do any and everything. I think that’s what prompted me, without even him being involved in music, that’s what prompted me to do music and want to be the best at it.”
He continued, “Because I always felt like whatever he did, he wanted to be the best at it. Whether that was basketball, baseball, or selling shoes, he’s the best at everything. That was definitely my hero.”
That said, now there has been some reciprocal love from the sports and business mogul. Although Jordan previously offered advice to Drake over the years concerning the design and selling of sneakers, it appears that Lamar is currently who the former NBA player is feeling as reports that he requested a DJ play ‘Not Like Us’ have been circulating online.
While out with his wife at Mary Lou’s, a fine-dining restaurant in West Palm Beach, the musical duo Forrester supposedly turned up to play some music. The act was not taking requests, that is, until Michael Jordan went up to the pair and asked them to play Kendrick Lamar’s ionic 2024 diss track ‘Not Like Us’.
It is still not confirmed if Jordan actually requested the track. However, a partygoer who was present at the event recorded the basketball legend dancing to the track with the caption, “The DJs said no requests until Michael Jordan asked.”
Regardless if the icon asked for it or not, it’s still quite satisfying for fans and undoubtedly Kendrick himself to see the 62-year-old enjoying the most popular hip-hop song of 2024.
