Metro Boomin regrets Drake diss: “That was out of character”
Metro Boomin has admitted he regrets dissing Drake on social media, calling the move “out of character” on his behalf.
The producer and Drizzy have been caught up in a bitter feud over the past year, but Metro is reflecting on the situation now with contrition.
During a new interview with GQ, he stated that he should have known better than to target Drake on X (formerly known as Twitter). His thought process was that because he isn’t a rapper, the best method to share his thoughts was social media.
“Now I did have my moment online, which I do regret,” he said. “I should have been stronger than that. That was out of character for me. I’m not going to get in the booth, so I’m finna tweet at you.”
Metro also claimed that the reason for their beef was due to something personal that happened between them that “really hurt” him. “We had a personal issue, and for the record, not over no girl or nothing silly like that,” he said. “It was a personal issue that really hurt me and disappointed me.”
The producer added, “But if you take all the rap entertainment out of it, it’s like, have you ever been real cool with somebody, and y’all fell out over something? It happens every day. It’s just regular shit. This just happens to have an audience.”

Metro Boomin also shot down the theory that his and Future’s entire collaborative albums, We Don’t Trust You and We Still Don’t Trust You, were used to diss Drake.
“People really think we sat for two years, making two albums [to be] like, ‘Yo, fuck this dude.’ What kind of shit is that?,” he said. “You really think we are going to spend that much time, effort, resources on just trying to get at somebody on an album? Blowing budgets on two albums—going over budget? That’s some serious hate. Neither one of us rock like that.”
Metro Boomin took shots at Drake’s Her Loss in December 2023, claiming the album shouldn’t be beating his own project, Heroes & Villains, at award shows.
“Yet Her Loss still keeps winning rap album of the year over H&V. Proof that award shows are just politics and not for me,” Metro wrote in a since-deleted tweet. “Idc about awards honestly, the true award and REWARD is knowing that the music I spend so much time on brings joy to peoples everyday lives.”
Drake appeared to respond in a livestream, saying, “And to the rest of you. The non-believers, the underachievers, the tweet-and-deleters, you guys make me sick to my stomach, fam.”
After the initial clash, the pair continued to interact on social media, with Metro Boomin eventually releasing a diss instrumental called ‘BBL Drizzy’.
