Method Man unveils his favourite martial arts movie

Fans of early 1990s hip-hop will undoubtedly hold Method Man in high regard as the legend that he is. However, the Tical creator has gone on to achieve much more than many of his peers. From his humble beginnings as a member of the Wu-Tang Clan, Method Man has since entered the world of television and movie-making.

The Grammy-award-winning musician was integral to projects such as Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), Wu-Tang Forever, and others. Following this success, Method Man paired with Redman to form the duo Method Man and Redman. The pair starred together in the 2001 stoner film How High and, in 2004, even went on to get their own sitcom on the Fox network. Furthermore, the duo’s debut album, Blackout! went platinum upon release.

As a successful actor, Method Man has appeared in films and TV shows such as the acclaimed HBO series Oz, The Wire and has held a recurring role on CSI as well as films such as Shaft, Where’s The Money and The Cobbler.

As an actor, Method Man has reached dizzying heights of fame. In an interview with Rotten Tomatoes, he discussed some of his favourite movies and delved into the details of why he loves certain films.

Speaking about the 2002 Bill Paxton-directed movie Frailty, Method Man declared, “I love that movie. I love the premise behind it. I love how we all thought that the father was insane, and then it pays off in the end. I don’t want to put spoilers in there for people who haven’t seen the movie. Great freakin’ movie!”

As he continued, Method Man paid homage to one actor in particular, exclaiming, “The bottom line is, any time you put Powers Boothe in a movie… This f*ckin’ guy, man. I just love Powers Boothe. I don’t care what you put him in. When he was on Deadwood, he killed it; Sin City, whatever. He was the best part of Sin City 2, if you ask me.”

However, there is one little-known martial arts movie that Method Man drew attention to. Entitled The Raid, the 2011 Indonesian movie grossed $10.1million in the US. Speaking about his love for the film, the lyricist explained, “I love how it was shot. I think that some of these people that make these comic book movies need to take note.”

He concluded, “The guy who made Captain America: The Winter Soldier, I salute you, I take my hat off to you, because you get it, sir. We are tired I’m speaking for all the comic book fans out there, because I’ve been a comic book fan since I was seven years old our movie dreams are becoming a reality now. We need to demand quality sh*t.”
