The song Megan Thee Stallion says defined her: “That’s me”
Megan Thee Stallion is one of the biggest rappers in the industry and has never been one to shy away from revealing who she looks up to. Coming from Houston, Texas, it’s only right that Beyoncé is one of her all-time favourite artists, with her dream coming true by collaborating with the Destiny’s Child singer on her ‘Savage’ remix in 2020.
Years ago, Hot Girl Meg claimed that one of Bey’s songs defined her as a person. That track, ‘Thique’, which appeared on her 2022 album Renaissance, was a braggadocious track about having a curvy body appearance while flaunting immense wealth. When asked to name her favourite song, Megan told The Cut, “Right now? It’s ‘Thique.’ I was like, That’s me.”
On the 12th Renaissance song, Bey raps on the chorus, “Ass getting bigger/ Racks getting bigger/ Cash getting larger/ He thought he was loving me good, I told him, ‘Go harder’/ She thought she was killing that shit, I told her, ‘Go harder’/ Just look at this alkaline wrist ’cause I got that water/ Arse getting thicker/ Cash getting thicker.”
Despite ‘Thique’ being released in 2022, Hit-Boy made the beat for the song in 2014. “I had to sit on that beat for eight years!” Hit-Boy told Rolling Stone. “That’s the way the game goes sometimes. I’ve had a lot of ups and downs in the game and certain people will perceive like, ‘Oh, where’s Hit-Boy been? What’s Hit-Boy been doing?’”
He added, “But then I’m sitting on stuff like ‘Thique’ that just hasn’t materialised yet. Y’all don’t even know how ahead I really am… I’ve been holding onto legendary stuff, and there’s plenty more.” Hit-Boy has produced many songs for Beyoncé, including ‘XO’, ‘Jealous’, ‘Flawless’, ‘Ring Off’ and ‘Sorry’.
Megan has made songs about her physique in the past. On the hit single ‘Body’, she raps in the chorus, “Body crazy, curvy, wavy, big titties, lil’ waist.” Then, in the third verse, she spits, “The category is body, look at the way it’s sittin’/ That ratio so out of control, that waist, that ass, them titties.” She also featured on a song called ‘Thick’ by DJ Chose.
During an interview with Elle in 2023, Megan revealed that Beyoncé made her change her verse on the ‘Savage’ remix because her lyrics were too explicit. “Beyoncé probably so tired of me saying her name,” she said. “We were in quarantine at this time. Beyoncé did the [‘Savage’ remix]. I didn’t believe she was actually gonna do it, but she did it, and my mind was blown. I called my granny. Me and my manager was in my living room, going crazy.”
She continued, “Beyoncé was like, ‘Could you please make your verse a little bit cleaner?’ I went in my living room, and I recorded it right then. Like, Beyoncé didn’t have to tell me twice! I sent that verse right back. But it was amazing. Everybody knows that I am obsessed with Beyoncé, so I when I got the collab, like being from Houston with her, I was just appreciative.”
