Memphis police arrest man acquitted of Young Dolph murder

A man acquitted of killing Young Dolph has been arrested on new charges.

Last year, 47-year-old Hernandez Govan was found not guilty in the death of the Memphis rapper after being accused of planning his murder.

According to The Commercial Appeal, Govan was taken into custody on June 11th for alleged harassment and stalking.

A warrant was issued on June 10th over an alleged domestic incident that was reported on June 4th. Following his arrest, no bond was set.

In a press release, the Memphis Police Department said, “Govan allegedly repeatedly harassed the victim, threatened to shoot up her residence, and threatened to post explicit content of her on social media.”

Dolph was shot and killed outside Makeda’s Homemade Butter Cookies, with two men gunning him down and leaving him with 22 gunshot wounds.

Prosecutors claimed Govan masterminded the killing, but on August 21st, 2025, he was acquitted after being charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.

Govan was initially arrested and charged in November 2022, with it being alleged that he ordered two people to shoot Dolph. The jury wasn’t convinced, despite a man testifying that he was hired by Govan to carry out the shooting for $10,000.

Following the decision, Govan’s lawyer said, “While we are happy with the result, we were disappointed the prosecution decided to pursue this case, knowing the investigation lacked merit. The high-profile nature of the case doesn’t mean it is appropriate for the State to put someone/anyone on trial.”

He added, “The fact that any judge signed off on warrants to authorise Mr Govan’s arrest and have him sit in jail for nearly a year is shameful.”
