Young Dolph shot and killed at 36

Young Dolph has been shot and killed in Memphis. The rapper was aged just 36.

The tragic incident took place at Makeda’s Butter Cookies at 2370 Airways in Memphis. Later, the store’s owner confirmed to Fox13 that Dolph came to the shop to buy cookies when someone drove up and shot the rapper.

He was born Adolph Robert Thornton, Jr., and released his first mixtape, Paper Route Campaign, in 2008. After years of grinding on a local scale, Dolph eventually became a national name in 2015 when his collaboration with O.T. Genasis on ‘Cut It’ became a hit.

Since his breakthrough, the rapper has also worked with acclaimed names like Megan Thee Stallion, T.I., 2 Chainz, Juicy J, Jeezy, and Rick Ross. The independent artist released his debut album, King of Memphis, in 2016, which he followed up with Rich Slave last year.

“The tragic shooting death of rap artist Young Dolph serves as another reminder of the pain that violent crime brings with it,” Memphis mayor Jim Strickland tweeted. “My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.”

Tributes have poured in for Dolph. Chance The Rapper tweeted, “God bless Dolph, Real independent Memphis rapper born in chicago. loved by millions of ppl. Always showed love everytime I seen him this is tragic God bless his family man”.

Meanwhile, Megan Thee Stallion posted an image of the rapper on Instagram. She captioned it, “Everybody that know me knows I play this man music EVERY DAY ! He was so genuine so real so kind to me and tfarris always !!! Rest In Peace to a real legend”.
