Man arrested over Macklemore home invasion robbery
Macklemore was the victim of a home invasion robbery earlier this summer. Now, a 29-year-old man has been arrested over the incident.
The violent robbery took place on June 7th at around 12:45am. Macklemore wasn’t home at the time, but a 22-year-old woman, who was working as a nanny, was attacked with bear spray by two men who entered the Capitol Hill property in Seattle.
The men stole thousands of dollars’ worth of items, which included a Seattle Sounders ring with Macklemore’s name on it. The woman, who was injured, called 911 from a neighbour’s home after escaping.
The arrest was part of the Seattle police and King County Sheriff’s Office’s investigation into celebrities being robbed across Washington.
Police found many of Macklemore’s items being sold at a jewellery store in Seattle, tracing them back to the robbery.
A statement from the Seattle Police Department read, “King County’s Valley Swat Team served a search warrant on the 29-year-old suspect’s Renton home. Police arrested him for a separate Seattle police robbery warrant. Detectives are expected to refer criminal charges to the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s office for the home invasion robbery in the coming days.
“From there, the investigation led police to a jewellery store in South Seattle. Upon serving a search warrant at the store yesterday, August 27th, detectives found multiple items stolen from the owner’s home and from other local homes that have recently been burglarised. Amongst the items found in the jewellery store were items from other high-profile celebrities.”
Macklemore’s three children were reportedly sleeping at the time of the robbery. The ‘Thrift Shop’ rapper purchased the home for $2.1 million in 2014.
