Mac Miller’s posthumous ‘Balloonerism’ album tracklist revealed
Mac Miller‘s second posthumous album, Balloonerism, is set to be released on January 17th. Ahead of its arrival, the Pittsburgh rapper’s family has shared the tracklist for the project via the 92 til’ Infinity Instagram account, which is home to all of the official announcements from Mac Miller’s estate.
Balloonerism comprises 14 tracks, with a feature from SZA on ‘DJ’s Chord Organ’ and Mac’s alter ego Delusional Thomas on ‘Transformations’. Some other song titles include ‘Do You Have a Destination?’, ‘Friendly Hallucinations’, ‘Stoned’ and ‘Tomorrow Will Never Know’.
The album was officially announced in November after being teased before Tyler, The Creator’s performance at the Camp Flog Gnaw festival. It was recorded in 2014, around the time Mac released his fan-favourite Faces mixtape.
A statement from Mac’s estate reads, “It is a project that was of great importance to Malcolm—to the extent that he commissioned artwork for it and discussions concerning when it should be released were had regularly, though ultimately GO:OD AM and subsequent albums ended up taking precedence.”
It continued, “We believe the project showcases both the breadth of his musical talents and fearlessness as an artist. Given that unofficial versions of the album have circulated online for years and that releasing Balloonerism was something that Malcolm frequently expressed being important to him, we felt it most appropriate to present an official version of the project to the world.”
Balloonerism will serve as the follow-up to his 2020 posthumous album Circles. The LP debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 with 164,000 units, having been completed by producer Jon Brion as a companion piece to Mac’s Swimming album, which dropped in 2018.
