Lupe Fiasco blames fans for “fucking his whole career up”
Lupe Fiasco has called out fans for damaging his career growth.
The Chicago rapper is currently touring North America for the 20th anniversary of his debut album, Food and Liquor.
During one of his recent shows, Lupe forgot the lyrics to his song ‘Kick, Push II’ and claimed that he only recorded it because of leaks.
According to him, Food and Liquor was intended to close out with ‘The Emperor’s Soundtrack’, cutting the tracklist down to 14 songs.
Speaking on stage, Lupe went on to target fans for downloading his album illegally and blamed them for changing the course of his career for the worse.
“You dirty bastards who downloaded the album illegally before it came out fucked everything up,” he said. “You fucked it all up, man. We supposed to be in stadiums right now, but you fucked it up. Because you were 12 and you were on Limewire and you thought you was cute, and you didn’t have any money, so you was like, ‘Let me just download this n*gga’s album and just fuck his whole career up in ways that we can’t even understand.'”
He added, “So now, you get upset with me for forgetting second verses of songs that shouldn’t even exist, in venues we shouldn’t even be in.”
‘Kick, Push II’, produced by B Howard, served as a sequel to Lupe’s debut single, ‘Kick, Push’, which appears on the same album.
The entire Food and Liquor album leaked five months before its official release, so he decided to add five extra songs. The album was executive-produced by Jay-Z, with contributions from Hov, Kanye West, Jill Scott, Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda, and others.
