LL Cool J wants Snoop Dogg to play him in biopic

Some rap icons have undisputable status, and LL Cool J is one of them. One of the first rappers to achieve mainstream success and make hip-hop a genuine cultural force alongside the likes of Run-DMC and Beastie Boys, while he might have moonlighted as an actor over the past three decades, appearing in Deep Blue Sea and NCIS: Los Angeles, his musical status is gilded.

In July, the Queens legend announced that after over a decade without new music, he is releasing his new album, The Force, on September 6th, via Def Jam and Virgin Music. Produced by another genre pioneer, Q-Tip, from A Tribe Called Quest, it features an all-star cast of collaborators, including Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Nas, Rick Ross, Busta Rhymes, Fat Joe, and more.

“We’re talking 14 tracks of straight fire, all crafted by myself and the one and only Q-Tip,” the rapper explained in a press release. “When you listen to this album, you’re not just hearing music, you’re experiencing a whole new vibe, a whole new level of artistic passion.”

During a recent chat with Entertainment Tonight, LL Cool J discussed the potential of a biopic or documentary about his life being made. In true form, he provided a unique and rather comical response to the question of who would play him in the hypothetical flick.

“I’m open to it but I’m not gonna lie, it bores me a little bit,” the ‘I’m Bad’ rapper said of biopics. “I don’t know, I have mixed emotions about it, I don’t know, I just have a lot to do creatively and I feel like I could do a lot. It’s not that I’m against it. I’m open to doing a documentary, I’m open to the idea of doing a biopic but it just doesn’t excite me.”

Although the prospect might seem a touch stale to LL Cool J, who likened it to looking at himself in the mirror with his jeans on, he did remark that he would like Snoop Dogg to play him. While he was clearly joking, as the West Coast heavyweight is reportedly working on his own biopic at the moment and has expressed an interest in doing the same for LL Cool J, it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility.

“Only under the condition that he actually plays me,” LL Cool J said of Dogg’s apparent interest in developing his biopic. “I need Snoop to be me in the biopic. You can produce it if you do that!”

In other LL Cool J news, he recently weighed in on the ongoing beef between Kendrick Lamar and Drake, claiming that the latter made a “bad choice” dissing the To Pimp a Butterfly legend.
