LL Cool J claims Ol’ Dirty Bastard peed on his plaques in New York studio
LL Cool J has claimed that Ol’ Dirty Bastard once urinated on his plaques.
The late Wu-Tang Clan member passed away in 2004 at the age of 35 following an accidental drug overdose.
During a recent interview with Salute the Sample, LL told a story about the time ODB peed on his plaques at a recording studio in New York City.
“I remember one time Chris Lighty called me up,” he began. “He was like, ‘Yo, you gotta come down here. You gotta come to Chung King Studios. For some reason, Ol’ Dirty Bastard just came in here, broke all your plaques and pissed on ’em.’”
He continued, “I said, ‘What I do?’ I didn’t even understand it. I couldn’t understand it. Loved him ever since. Shout out to Ol’ Dirty, man!”
Manager and record producer Lighty, who died in 2012, previously told a story about Ol’ Dirty Bastard peeing on plaques, but didn’t mention who they belonged to.
“[Ol’ Dirty Bastard] came through twisted,” he told Stuff Magazine. “He was talking gibberish on his rhyme and then gets mad at us because we weren’t gonna record him like that. He started ripping gold and platinum plaques off the wall. And he definitely pissed on one of the plaques.”
He added, “At this point, he’s off the Richter scale. The receptionist calls the police, so we get out of there. At the bottom of the elevator, he changes his whole tune. He was laughing his ass off!”
ODB released his final album, N*gga Please, in 1999. Sessions for the album took place at that very recording studio, Chung King Studios, along with other places in New York and Los Angeles.
