RZA dedicates new movie to late Wu-Tang Clan member Ol’ Dirty Bastard
RZA is paying tribute to Ol’ Dirty Bastard with his new movie.
Wu-Tang Clan’s de facto leader is preparing to release his latest film titled One Spoon of Chocolate on May 1st.
During a recent interview with UPI, RZA opened up about the Quentin Tarantino-presented movie being dedicated to ODB.
RZA named the lead character Randy ‘Unique’ Johnson after the late rapper, who was known as Ason Unique.
The character, Unique, is a military veteran who is released on parole to live with his cousin. “What if ODB was a hero to the world?” RZA said. “Unique and Ramsee in my movie, I got a chance to put them back together.”
He continued, “When I was a kid, it was their house that had the turntables. I would go to their house and see normalcy, see a mother and a father together, see some turntables and some tape recorders and make demos.”
Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s classic song, ‘Brooklyn Zoo‘, also appears in the soundtrack for the movie, which came with some difficulty. “It’s not easy to license his stuff,” he said. “He’s got lawyers and estates, but they love me, they love the film, and they gave us the ‘Brooklyn Zoo’ track.”
Speaking on the plot, RZA added, “The old man tells him one spoon of chocolate can change the whole glass of milk and it strikes something. Now he’s reading to the kids. He’s trying to pull himself up and by doing good, the thing that he desired comes to him, which was this transfer.”
One Spoon of Chocolate is written and directed by RZA, starring the likes of Shameik Moore, Paris Jackson, and RJ Cyler.
