Lil Yachty offers his verdict on the Drake and Kendrick Lamar battle
Lil Yachty has offered up his verdict on who won the recent public beef between Drake and Kendrick Lamar that saw the two rap heavyweights trade diss-tracks about each other.
In a manner akin to former football pundits who won’t be moved to offer their opinion on the Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo debate and instead says we should just appreciate them both, Lil Yachty said he merely loved the spectacle.
The Atlanta rapper was even mentioned in Lamar’s track ‘Euphoria’, but he says he didn’t “want anything to do with it”. Later commenting on A Safe Place podcast, “I got a ton of respect for both of these guys.”
The ‘Drive Me Crazy’ rapper went on to add: “Honestly, it was a cool thing to watch. I learned so much. It was an honour and blessing to be able to experience it first hand.”
However, he was less certain about picking a winner of the debacle. “Drake dropped great records,” he said. “But also, let’s be fair: Drake was deemed a loser in this battle before it started because people don’t like him and haven’t.”
In this regard, he thinks it was a positive thing for both rappers in general. “I don’t think people are gonna stop listening to Drake and Drake’s career is gonna flush,” he said. “I don’t feel like [Drake] won or lost.”
He even ventured that both artists possibly gain respect for each other’s artistic abilities. “I think Kendrick made very smart moves and I don’t think Drake would disagree,” he said, even though at times the clash seemed to get heated.
“Rappers have lost, and then lost everything,” he concluded. But on this occasion, the ‘Coffin’ star pretty much calls it a draw.
