Lil Wayne to release Kendrick Lamar diss track, according to Joe Budden
According to Joe Budden, Lil Wayne is dropping a diss track aimed at Kendrick Lamar following the latter’s reference to next year’s Super Bowl LIX Half Time Show on his new album GNX.
Earlier this year, it was announced that Lamar would headline the show in New Orleans, and many were outraged that the legendary Lil Wayne hadn’t been chosen to perform in his hometown.
Lamar recently released his sixth album, GNX, on November 22nd. However, the Compton native named several legendary MCs on the project, one of which was Lil Wayne. Since the announcement of Kendrick as next year’s Super Bowl headliner, many artists have expressed their outrage at the decision, and Lil Wayne has admitted the snub hurt his feelings.
However, on GNX, the ‘Not Like Us’ rhymer unveiled that Wayne’s response was not the reaction he was expecting. Furthermore, he insinuated that he was disappointed the Rebirth creator decided to hate on him instead of congratulating him.
During an episode of The Joe Budden Show, the host unveiled some previously unknown details about the tension that has existed between Lamar and Wayne since the Super Bowl headliner was announced.
Budden first revealed that the Young Money founder actually tried to reach out to Lamar to speak about his reaction so they could put their issues behind them. However, according to Budden, Wayne’s attempt was unsuccessful. As such, Wayne has allegedly decided to “hit the booth.”
Dishing the dirt on what happened behind the scenes, Budden stated, “I’m hearing that somebody picked up the phone, tried to call and see what the energy was. I’m hearing that Kendrick didn’t answer.”
His co-host, Lamar ‘Ice’ Burney, then insisted that it is common knowledge that in 2021, when K Dot penned an open letter, he let fans know that he often goes “months without a phone” so that he can “reflect on what matters the most.” Therefore, Burney told Budden it should be unsurprising Wayne got no answer, but Budden wasn’t convinced.
Budden explained, “Yeah, but if I’m calling you, rapper to rapper, and you don’t answer, it’s like what Mark [Lamont Hill] told fucking [Queenz] Flip when they had their shit. Now, I’m going in the booth. You have until I get in that booth to hit me back.”
On his latest album, addressing Lil Wayne, Lamar rapped, “Used to bump ‘Tha Carter III,’ I held my Rollie chain proud / Irony, I think my hard work let Lil Wayne down.” Adding, “Won the Super Bowl and Nas the only one congratulate me / All these n*ggas agitated, I’m just glad they showed they faces / Quite frankly, plenty artists but they outdated / Old-ass flows, tryna convince me that you they favourite.” Still, only time will tell if Lil Wayne really has a diss track he is prepared to release.
