Lil Wayne responds to rumours of feud with Drake

There are plenty of names in hip-hop who’ve feuded with Drake in one way or another, but Lil Wayne has moved quickly to deny that he’s become the latest addition to that number.

Drake’s ongoing issues with Kendrick Lamar have been dominating the discourse for months after the two became engaged in a battle of one-upmanship that’s captivated the pop culture consciousness, but it’s hardly the first time the former has been involved in bad blood getting made public.

Chris Brown, Tyga, Common, Meek Mill, Kanye West, Pusha T, Joe Budden, Ludacris, and Megan Thee Stallion are just some of the names to have been caught in Drake’s crosshairs, and vice versa, but none of them ever had a relationship that was anywhere near as close as the one he shared with Lil Wayne.

The two have collaborated on multiple tracks, with Wayne’s Young Money label benefitting immensely from its association with Drake. Fortunately for fans of the pair, both individually and collectively, they remain on good terms after recent social media activity, which had many fearing the worst.

It wouldn’t be out of the ordinary for Drake to fall out with one of his peers, but when Wayne started teaming up with several figures who aren’t the biggest fans of Drake, alarm bells rang. He rapped with Rick Ross on DJ Premier’s ‘Ya Don’t Stop’ and wore an XO chain, seemingly referencing the label of notorious adversary The Weeknd.

Then, Wayne popped up on Cordae’s ‘Saturday Mornings’ with a verse that gave rise to many theories suggesting Drake was the target. There’s definitely such a thing as reading too far between lines that may or may not even be there, and it would appear that there’s no ill will between Lil Wayne and Drake.

All it took was some social media activity, too, with Drake dropping three new songs on August 23rd. Three days later, Lil Wayne reposted the single ‘No Face’ without context, which was good enough for supporters of both to assume was a sign they were still on friendly terms.

Lil Wayne has never shied away from publicly defending Drake, and while reposting a song is a fairly innocuous genre on the surface, it’s good enough for hip-hop fans to believe the latter hasn’t made himself yet another enemy.

Based on how things have been going, ending up at loggerheads with another hip-hop star is the last thing Drake needs, so it’s a welcome development.
