Has Lil Wayne just dissed Drake on ‘Saturday Mornings’?

If you look back at the career of Drake, at the very beginning, was the umbrella influence of Lil Wayne. Weezy was a longtime supporter of the Toronto rapper and has been name-checked by him as a huge influence in songs and interviews ever since. But has Wayne taken a shot at Drake in his latest track?

The song, ‘Saturday Mornings,’ was released by Cordae, and Wayne slides in on the last verse. The Young Money rapper has always been a mentor to Drake and even tried to defend him during his feud with Kendrick Lamar, but fans think he is sending shots on this release.

Lil Wayne is famed for his impressive wordplay and delivers in buckets on ‘Saturday Mornings’ bringing some of the best rhymes he’s had in years. But some of the lines have now been seen as taking shots at Drizzy: “It fit me like a glove, OJ hand. I’ma need a little love from your hating a*s,” Wayne raps. “Need less yes-men and more amens. I’ma need more real prayers and less praying hands.”

The two images could be in reference to the Toronto rapper. The OJ glove might be a suggestion of the cover art for Drake diss song ‘6:16 In LA’ while the praying hands could be a reference to Drake’s ‘6 God’ logo.

However, one line appears to go even further and picks out Drake’s surname Graham: “You standing on business, I’m a business man,” Lil Wayne rhymes. “I’ma GOAT, n**ga you a sacrificial lamb. You a Teddy bear, n**ga, a Teddy Graham.” It seems an obvious bar aimed straight at Drake’s dome.

But, while online sleuths feel like they have unlocked a secret, it would go against everything we know about the pair. Weezy has always backed Drake and even tried to change up the lyrics to ‘Not like Us’ during an ill-fated recent performance. However, he also collaborated with Rick Ross, another rapper with whom Drake is feuding.

While it would be easy to see how these lines could form an attack on Drake, Wayne’s presence is so large over the hip-hop world that any sneak diss would always be uncovered. It means that Wayne would have had to have fallen out with Drake in the last few weeks, which feels unlikely.

This may well just be another case of fans finding meaning where there is none.
