Nivea has claimed that Lil Wayne forced her to quit music before leaving her for Toya Johnson.
Before she met Weezy, Nivea was a Grammy-nominated star in her own right and had a string of hits in the early 2000s. However, after they met in 2002 and he swept Nivea off her feet, she agreed to take a step back from music and just become a housewife.
After they broke off their relationship in 2003, Nivea married Terius Nash but reconciled with Lil Wayne following their divorce in 2007. She gave birth to their son in 2009, and the pair even got engaged before breaking up in 2010.
“He said come be with me,” she explained to Kandi Burness. “I got you…we were young and I think at the time he was one of those guys who wanted to be bigger and on top not equal.”
She continued: “I don’t know what to do, I’m just sitting there being a housewife, and then the situation he was like, Reginae was really young, oh I love her so much, and although everybody love me, Toya, everybody, they were like they shouldn’t be together, she’s so young you know so he was like, all of a sudden he was ‘I never stayed in an apartment before so let’s get an apartment…I didn’t realise that he did that to move Toya back in the house.”
In 2019, Nivea returned with her fourth album, Mirrors, her first record in 13-years.
