Lil Tjay recalls waking up from coma after being shot seven times in 2022
Lil Tjay has opened up about waking up from a coma in 2022 following a shooting.
The 25-year-old Bronx rapper was shot seven times in Edgewater, New Jersey, and required emergency surgery.
During a recent interview with Hot 97, Tjay went into detail about waking up in the hospital after his coma.
“I just remember waking up,” he began. “It was a doctor or nurse named Lauren. She walked in and was like, ‘Oh, he’s up.’ She told me, ‘You didn’t look so good last week.’ And I’m like, ‘Last week?'”
Tjay went on to explain that he didn’t have a clue where he was or what had happened to put him in the hospital bed.
“It didn’t feel like nothing,” he said. “I didn’t even know what happened. I didn’t even know where I was at. I never thought I’d get shot. I just thought I could do whatever I want.”
He continued, “The fact that I took any type of L or anything even happened to me that I didn’t plan, I was just like, ‘Oh shit, I could be just like anybody else.'”
Tjay discusses the incident on ‘Do What I Can’, the outro track on his most recent album, They Just Ain’t You, which was released earlier this month.
In the song, he raps, “God must ain’t want me to die/ It took some real shit that happen, I’m lucky I’m even here rapping, could’ve been in the sky/ Shot in my neck and my chest, I weigh one sixty-five, even doctors like, ‘I ain’t gon’ lie’.”
They Just Ain’t You serves as his first independent album, with his first three albums being released through Columbia Records.
