A memorial gathering was held for Florida rapper Lil Poppa over the weekend, which saw four people shot.
Poppa, who was signed to Yo Gotti’s CMG label, died in Georgia on February 18th at the age of 25.
The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office revealed that his death was ruled a suicide, with Poppa suffering a gunshot wound to the head.
According to Action News Jax, a party took place after midnight on February 22nd to celebrate the life of Poppa, but it ended in violence. Four people were shot on Jacksonville’s East Side.
Police officers say around 12 to 15 shots were fired; the victims included two men aged 37 and 43, and two women aged 34 and 39.
Police are currently searching for a suspect, but they don’t have a description of the perpetrator.
One woman was found at the scene and taken to the hospital, while the three others took themselves to the emergency room.
Many bottles of Don Julio were discovered at the intersection of A Philip Randolph Boulevard and Jessie Street.
Local man Robert Phelps said, “I remember [Poppa] as a little kid singing and rapping inside the church. I enjoyed him. I hate that he’s gone. I haven’t seen anything like this happening or heard anything like this happening here in years, so yeah, definitely out of character. I mean, they always have gatherings every night.”
Bishop Harry Williams added, “Don’t be afraid to tell somebody you know if they see something. Don’t be afraid to tell him, ‘Hey man, I see you got that gun on the side. Put it in the car, man! Let’s just talk. Let’s just hang out. Let’s have a good time, go back to our families.’”
