Lil Nas X reveals he's entering a new "Christian era"

Atlanta rapper Lil Nas X is looking to follow in Kanye West’s footsteps as he lets fans know he is entering the Christian era of his artistry by previewing an acoustic track speaking to God.

The preview of the track was accompanied by visuals that saw Lil Nas X rocking with straight hair and singing about God in a slow drawl in the passenger seat of a truck. The lyrics and video are a far cry from his regular sexually provocative material.

Asking God for help, the emcee sings, “Father stretch my hands / The lonely road seems to last the longest / Help me with my plans / Everything seems to go to nowhere / Free me from worry / Free me from all this envy in me.”

The video also sees Lil Nas X kneeling to pray in the middle of the street, wearing a jean skirt, before he proceeds to run into an intersection. Although the rapper (real name Montero Hill) is excited about entering his religious phase, many have attacked him, insisting he cannot be both homosexual and Christian.

In a response tweet to the backlash, Hill wrote, “Making Christian music does not mean I can’t suck dick no more. The two are not mutually exclusive. I am allowed to get on my knees for multiple reasons.”

He then posted again, this time writing, “Y’all see everything I do as a gimmick. When in reality, im just an artist expressing myself in different ways. whether im a cowboy, gay, satanic, or now Christian, y’all find a problem! Y’all don’t police nobody else art like mine. Y’all hate me because im fun cute and petite.”

The ‘Old Town Road’ star has been laying low this year, especially since his appearance at the Toronto Film Festival, where a bomb threat occurred. No music has been released by the rhymer this year. However, 2024 looks promising for the 24-year-old.
