Lil Jon reveals new memoir helped him process son’s death
Lil Jon has revealed that his new memoir helped him process the death of his son.
Jon’s son, DJ Young Slade, died in Georgia in February after going missing. He was found in a pond, with his cause of death ruled “drowning in the setting of psilocybin use.”
His father is set to release his new book, I Only Shout So You Can Hear Me, on October 20th, and has opened up about the memoir’s role in his grieving process.
The book was finished before his son’s death, but he returned to the draft to write about “processing and dealing with” the loss.
“Me telling my story and what I’m going through could help someone else to get through it,” he said about his upcoming release. “‘Cause I’m not alone.”
The memoir, 288 pages long, will follow Jon’s rise to fame, from his mother’s roots in Alabama to his own career.
Speaking to People, Jon said, “I’ve worked on a lot of different projects over the years, but this one right here made me dig deep and turn inward.”
He continued, “Y’all have heard my voice for over three decades, but here’s a chance to read what I really have to say about it all, and catch a glimpse into the innermost circles of both my professional and personal worlds.”
Jon opened up about why he decided to release the book. “I’ve been blessed to amass enormous wins, but with that I’ve also had to endure immense hardships and painful losses privately and publicly… and I’m finally ready to share that with you all,” he said. “This ride ain’t been an easy one, but whoever said chasin’ your dreams was easy?”
