Lil Durk’s mother gives update on rapper’s prison condition

The mother of Lil Durk has provided an update on her son’s condition behind bars.

The Chicago rapper was arrested in October 2024 and has remained in jail at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles ever since.

Durk’s mother, LaShawnda Woodard, recently appeared on an episode of the Victim or Villain podcast and spoke about how he’s coping with being incarcerated.

“Every time I talk to him, it’s never serious,” she told the host. “So, he’s doing pretty good.”

Woodard explained how she found out about the charges against her son in the first place, with it taking a “couple of days” for him to call her.

“It’s like I lost another child,” she said. “It hurts. It hurts, like, I couldn’t believe it. And, I knew something [was wrong] because I kept calling his phone, and he don’t answer. And then I called his sisters, ‘Have you heard from him?’ They like, ‘Nah.’ I text him, but… so, finally I got the call. And I’m like, ‘Oh my god.'”

Durk is accused of conspiring with others to kill Quando Rondo, resulting in the death of his cousin, Lul Pab.

He’s charged with one count of conspiracy and one count of use of interstate facilities to commit murder-for-hire resulting in death.

Durk is also charged with one count of using, carrying, and discharging firearms and a machine gun and possession of such firearms in furtherance of a crime of violence resulting in death.

His trial is scheduled to begin in August 2026. Speaking in April, Durk said, “I just want to give y’all an update on my mental, my mind state. I’ve just been reading these books, working on my patience.”
