Lil Durk denied $3.3 million bond over murder-for-hire charges
Lil Durk has been denied bond following a $3.3 million bail package related to his murder-for-hire charges. His defence team put forward $1 million in cash and $2.3 million in property as part of the attempt, but it wasn’t enough to sway the judge.
During the detention hearing, which took place in a courtroom in Los Angeles on December 12th, Durk’s attorneys claimed he wasn’t attempting to flee the country prior to his arrest in Miami in October.
Durk pled not guilty to conspiracy, murder-for-hire and firearms charges in November. The charges include one count of conspiracy, one count of using interstate facilities to commit murder-for-hire resulting in death, and one count of using, carrying and discharging firearms and a machine gun and possession of such firearms in furtherance of a crime of violence resulting in death.
According to Rolling Stone, his lawyers said he denies ordering the assassination and that a song cited in his indictment was actually recorded before the deadly shooting took place in 2022.
In addition to cash and property, his lawyers proposed electronic monitoring, 24-hour security and the surrender of electronic devices. Prosecutors called Durk a flight risk and a danger to the community while claiming the bond conditions were “woefully inadequate.” Ultimately, the judge agreed.
“Based on all of the evidence, I find that there is no condition or combination of conditions that will reasonably assure the safety of the community,” Judge Patricia Donahue said. “The allegations are not that the defendant personally pulled the trigger. The allegations are that the defendant exercises a significant amount of control over others.”
Durk has been accused of putting a bounty on Quando Rondo’s head in response to the murder of King Von in 2020. It’s claimed that Durk paid people to open fire on Rondo’s vehicle at a gas station near the Beverly Center mall in August 2022. Rondo’s cousin, Lul Pab, was next to him at the time and lost his life as a result of the bullets.
The trial was previously announced for January 7th but is expected to be delayed. If convicted, Durk faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.
