Lil Cam’s Lawyer denies that he shot Takeoff

The lawyer representing Lil Cam has dismissed rumours circulating on the internet that suggest that his client shot and killed the rapper Takeoff.

Several reports have indicated that Lil Cam faced prior weapons charges related to Takeoff’s shooting. The rapper’s lawyer and his prosecutors were speaking about the case at a Houston court hearing yesterday (November 30th). The prosecutors made reference to CCTV footage that showed Cam with a gun at the scene of Takeoff’s death. However, the chief attorney did not go so far as to actually accuse him of shooting at Takeoff.

Head prosecutor Matt Gilliam said to journalists following the hearing, “We believe Cameron Joshua [Lil Cam] has been appropriately charged in this case. And we’re continuing our investigation into the death of Takeoff.” Then, Christopher Downey, Lil Cam’s lawyer, said that Lil Cam simply did not kill Takeoff and laughed off the online rumours.

He said, “I haven’t seen anything to suggest that Cameron Joshua had anything to do with the shooting, that he discharged a firearm that caused death or was he even involved. My understanding is there was some type of skirmish.”

“I’m familiar with all the Instagram sleuths,” he added. “They remind me of the blind guy who tries to figure out an elephant and grabs its trunk and thinks it’s a snake. The bottom line is they’re wrong. Cameron Joshua did not shoot Takeoff.”

Downey then added they he didn’t know if Lil Cam knew precisely who killed Takeoff but noted that his client might need to discuss his murder with prosecutors in their investigation. He said, “We will discuss that with the D.A.’s office if we decide to.”

Takeoff had been shot at a bowling alley in Houston, Texas, on November 1st. He was just 28 years old. The case surrounding his death rolls on.
