Lil Baby invests in his old Atlanta neighbourhood: “I’m buying all the houses”

Lil Baby has revealed he’s invested in his old neighbourhood in Atlanta.

The rapper released a new episode of his WHAM vlog this week, in which he returned to his old stomping grounds and revealed he had purchased property.

The homes are located in the Oakland City area of Atlanta, where he grew up, with Baby claiming people are trying to take housing away.

“I made history in this same exact spot, now I’m making history again,” he explained. “I’m buying it for my son. They’re trying to take our neighbourhood, I gotta put my foot down. I gotta have me some. Save the streets.”

Baby reflected on some of the properties being abandoned, dating back to when he was in the streets.

“It’s like a strategy to me, buying the houses,” he said. “I’m buying all the houses, all the properties I used to hustle in front of. It was times when this was abandoned and I still was standing here while it was abandoned. No lights. No water. No nothing. Just me and the smokers.”

The vlog saw him walking around the Atlanta neighbourhood with his two sons, Jason and Loyal.

During an interview with XXL in 2022, Baby claimed he was one of the most important Atlanta rappers of all time.

“I see myself in the history of Atlanta hip-hop as one of the greatest to ever do it,” he said. “When I say do it, that don’t mean like necessarily most-selling albums or the longest-running or it don’t mean numbers or nothing. I mean to take my situation, turn my situation into generational wealth.”

He released his last album, WHAM, in January 2025. It reached number one on the Billboard 200 chart with 140,000 units in its first week.
