Lauryn Hill announces her own UK festival

Lauryn Hill has announced that she’s bringing her festival to the UK.

Diaspora Calling! will be coming to Milton Keynes on August 7th, with Hill headlining the event alongside fellow Fugees member Wyclef Jean, along with YG Marley and Zion Marley.

The event will take place at the 65,000-capacity National Bowl, which has hosted everyone from Michael Jackson to David Bowie to Queen.

Hill took to Instagram to announce the news on March 25th, adding that more artists are set to be announced.

“DIASPORA CALLING UNITED KINGDOM,” she wrote alongside a poster. “On Friday 7th August, I’m bringing something special to the stage at the Milton Keynes National Bowl. Diaspora Calling! – A celebration of sound, culture, art and connection.”

Sh continued, “I’ll be joined by family and powerful voices: Wyclef Jean, YG Marley, Zion Marley and very special guests… Exciting full line up announced soon, covering hip-hop, R&B, reggae, dancehall, afrobeats and beyond.”

Fans can sign up over at the festival’s website, with tickets scheduled to go on sale on March 31st at 9am local time.

The first edition of Diaspora Calling! took place in 2016 at Brooklyn’s Kings Theatre in New York. Hill last performed in the UK in October 2024 as part of the Fugees on the The Miseducation Anniversary Tour at Cardiff’s Utilita Arena.

She released her classic album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, in 1998, marking the only solo album of her career. It debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 422,624 copies in its first week.

The album won five Grammys, including ‘Album of the Year’, in 1999, becoming the first hip-hop album to win the award. Since then, it’s been certified diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America.
