Fugees rapper Pras drops fraud lawsuit against Lauryn Hill
Fugees’ Pras has officially dropped his lawsuit against fellow group member Lauryn Hill.
In October 2024, Pras sued Hill for fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, breach of contract, improper accounting, unjust enrichment, and refusal to permit a tour audit, among other claims, relating to their 2023 comeback shows.
His lawsuit claimed that the budget included “unnecessary, and, most likely fictitious, expenses, that seemed to be designed to lose money.”
However, on March 11th, Pras agreed to drop his lawsuit. It’s currently unclear what led to the suit’s dismissal, but it was filed without prejudice, meaning he could refile it at a later date.
Pras is set to begin his 14-year prison sentence on March 30th after being convicted of conspiracy, witness tampering, failing to register as an agent of China, and other counts in 2023.
He was accused of orchestrating a foreign influence campaign to get the US to drop an investigation into fugitive Malaysian financier Jho Low.
When Pras’ lawsuit against Hill was initially filed, she described it as “baseless” and “full of false claims and unwarranted attacks.”
In a statement, she said, “I’ve been silent and pushing through because I understood that Pras was under duress because of his legal battles and that this was perhaps affecting his judgment, state of mind, and character.”
She added, “I was not in Pras’ life when he decided to make the unfortunate decision that lead to his current legal troubles. I did not advise that he make that decision and therefore am in no way responsible for his decision and its consequences though I have taken it upon myself to help. Despite his attacks, I am still compassionate and hope things work out for him.”
