Killer Mike arrested for allegedly assaulting security guard

Run The Jewels emcee Killer Mike has been arrested after allegedly assaulting and injuring a female security guard after the Grammy Awards ceremony. The lyricist was the recipient of three honours.

According to police reports obtained by Rolling Stone, the Atlanta act was stopped backstage by a steward attempting to direct him to a security checkpoint. However, Killer Mike ignored the female trying to guide him and proceeded to make his way around her.

Following this, according to the steward, she “ran around and got in front of him again,” but he allegedly “pushed her to the ground,” causing her to suffer significant injuries to her hand and fingers.

After being pushed to the ground, the report details the female then called for help from her fellow security guards and, after receiving urgent medical treatment, signed a citizen’s arrest for Mike (real name Michael Render).

The charge levelled against the artist was for a misdemeanour battery. Following the scuffle, Render was taken to a local police station for booking and processing. He was then released after accepting the minor charge. He’s scheduled to make a court appearance on February 29th. However, the misdemeanour means he will not face any jail time.

Despite the backstage incident, Render is still on a high following his wins. This year, he was honoured for his album, Michael, and took home the coveted award for ‘Best Rap Album.’ His song ‘Scientists & Engineers’ also earned him two Grammys for ‘Best Rap Song’ and ‘Best Rap Performance.’

Calling into the Atlanta morning radio segment The Big Tigger Show on v103 the next day, Render explained, “We hit a speed bump, and then we headed back to the party!” The lyricist did not dwell on his arrest during the interview and is still focusing on his Grammy wins.
