Kanye West has claimed that his record company, Universal, released his most recent album, Donda, without his consent.
The album finally arrived yesterday after three listening events and numerous postponed release dates, which disappointed fans on multiple occasions. The rapper’s tenth-studio album dropped after an elongated launch that quickly grew tiresome.
At one point, it even appeared as though Donda might not be arriving at all, as Kanye moved into the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta to put his finishing touches on the record. Now, it’s emerged that if it weren’t for an intervention from Universal, the album wouldn’t be available right now.
“Universal put my album out without my approval,” he abruptly posted on Instagram. Yeezy went as far as claiming that the label even ‘blocked’ ‘Jail, Pt. 2’ from appearing on Donda. The track sees West collaborate with both DaBaby and Marilyn Manson despite the former’s homophobic comments at Rolling Loud and the numerous accusations of sexual abuse about the latter.
Earlier in the day, West took to the same platform to share messages with his manager, who claimed that the album wouldn’t be released until DaBaby was removed from the album. His manager wrote, “We won’t be able to Upload unless we take him off”. In response, Kanye said he was “not taking my brother off [the album]” and mentioned how “He [DaBaby] was the only person who said he would vote for me in public”.
“So the album is not coming out,” the rapper continued in his message before adding, “God gotta bigger plan” for the situation. “A plan that can’t be stopped!!” Thiam replied.
The album then dropped on streaming services without ‘Jail Pt.2’, after Universal didn’t clear the track, which frustrated Kanye, and he later got his own way when the song eventually appeared on platforms.
