The diss track Kanye West made about T-Pain: “That was pretty fucked up”

Kanye West and T-Pain may have a fruitful history of working together, but that didn’t stop Ye from allegedly making a diss track about him. Following the success of ‘Good Life’ from Graduation, Kanye brought T-Pain into the studio to work on his 808s & Heartbreak album in 2008.

Ye apparently wasn’t impressed with T-Pain’s suggestions, prompting him to record a diss track that involved other people in the studio also taking shots at him. “He came up with this song for me, and it wasn’t a good song,” T-Pain told VladTV. “It was basically describing how wack my ideas was that I was coming up with. And he made everybody in the studio join in with him to sing like, ‘T-Pain’s shit is weak.’”

T-Pain said the unreleased song was “pretty lyrical” and he was expecting the track to be released. “I actually thought he should have put that on the record at some point,” he said. “But it would have been a diss record. I thought that was pretty fucked up.”

The Florida rapper once claimed that he felt unappreciated for the lack of credit he received as the originator of Auto-Tune, citing similarities between 808s & Heartbreak and his debut album, Rappa Ternt Sanga.

“I respect that shit, but it’s like, the praise that he got from it was like, ‘Oh my God, this is so creative. This is the new shit. This is the shit,’” he said. “And I’m like, ‘Well, what happened in 2005 when I dropped Rappa Ternt Sanga and it was the same album. That’s kind of weird.’ You know what I’m saying?”

He continued, “It just felt like I was unappreciated and anything like that. Any originator of anything is gonna be the lesser-known because it’s the newest thing and that’s just not—it’s not right, but that’s just how shit goes.”

That’s not the only time T-Pain has spoken negatively about Kanye. He once claimed that Ye stole some of his lyrics from ‘Danger’ and used it for his My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy intro, ‘Dark Fantasy’. “Kanye stole one of my corny lines,” he said on Twitch. “I couldn’t believe it. Kanye stole one of my corny lines after he told me it was corny. I don’t think he said it better. I don’t think anything happened that his was better than mine.

“He was like, ‘Don’t ever say anything like that.’ Then after that, one of his bars was, ‘Too many Urkels on your team, that’s why your wins low.’ And I was like, ‘Did this n*gga try to get me to not say my shit so he could say it?’ … I was like, ‘Bro, that’s my bar.’ He looked at me and he was literally bobbing his head, grabbing his chin, and when I said that line he looked at me and said, ‘Don’t say that.’”
