Kanye West thought Nicki Minaj’s verse on ‘Monster’ slayed him

The problem with continually collaborating is that one day you might meet your match. Kanye West apparently privately confessed that he thought he was trounced by Nicki Minaj when he welcomed her onto his track ‘Monster’.

The verse from his fifth studio album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, has been lauded as one of the greatest in modern rap history, which makes it a tough act to live up to for West who followed it.

This harsh truth was revealed by West’s ex-girlfriend Amber Rose, who told The Ringer’s Higher Learning: “I put Nicki on ‘Monster’. He didn’t know who Nicki was back then. I had Nicki pull up to the studio and I put her on ‘Monster’.”

Continuing: “She was still coming up and I saw her in the studio and I was like, ‘Oh my god this bitch is fucking talented as hell,’ and then I went back to Kanye and I was like, ‘You need to get this girl Nicki on ‘Monster,’ and he was like, ‘Who? What? No.’”

As we all know, she did eventually feature on the track, but once West actually heard the verse he wanted it removed from the track for putting him in the shade. “He said, ‘How the fuck did you bring in a bitch that killed me on my own song?’” Rose said.

As Rose concluded: “I was with Kanye at the time and I was like, ‘Kanye, you gotta give her a shot like she’s amazing. He tried it out and he put her on ‘Monster.’ He was like, ‘Damn, she fuckin’ killed that shit.’”
